Scintillation Proximity Assays

The use of appropriate radioisotopes and scintillant incorporated microbeads allows the scintillation proximity assay (SPA) to become truly homogeneous and high-throughput. As there are ways of capturing radiolabelled molecules either directly or via a binding partner, the assay could be used for sensitive detection of enzymatic process as well as protein-protein interaction. For the former, we have developed a SPA assay for a methyltransferase. The ability of the enzyme in putting a radiolabelled methyl group onto a biotinylated peptide is tested in the presence of an inhibitor. SPA is relatively a versatile technique and has broad assay application, Biortus looks forward to utilise the full potential of this assay technology for our clients.
